      Coaching children & teenagers
I will soon start coaching of two clients which I need your advise:
      1. Ten years old girl wants to be like her cousin, a very bright and future medical doctor client of mine. She asked her mom to bring her to me. I already told her mom that will like to see them both in an Intro session, to explore the coaching process (if applicable). I am asking to myself, How many limiting beliefs should a child like her would have? To me is obvious that mom has to be in coaching too since she will be the support system for the child in installing the new programs. What do you recommend?

      2. Seventeen years old youth, labeled as Asperger Syndrome, has been expulsed from school (2020 senior). He has been few special schools since 3rd grade. Is now being treated for depression (Prozac), anxiety (Risperdal) due a suicidal attempt last month (second attempt in his teenage years). His mom is my client and is looking for alternatives since traditional medicine has brought him toward where he is now. She already has the medical clearance for my coaching sessions.

      Advise Please!

      Wanda! Great questions!
      1. If it’s obvious to you about the mom being in coaching as well, then you’re the Coach and go with your intuition here. Make a package deal!
There’s no rule about this, you “should” do X or “shouldn’t” do Y when it comes to this situation…. if you, as the Coach, think an intervention is obvious then 100% that is how you will produce successful results. Because your Client will actualize what the Coach (you) holds to be true.
When it comes to ‘how many limiting beliefs should a child like her have?’ is a nice question to ask but it is irrelevant here…once you define the goal, which here is to become a Medical Doctor, the limiting beliefs will present themselves…could be 1 or many. The definition of the goal could also present parts and negative emotions that get in the way of achieving her goal, all things that are very real to a 10 year old as much (relatively speaking) as it is to a 40 year old with the same goal.
So I recommend, do your assessment with them. Check in with yourself, and do your normal ecology check, and close them (if you want to work with them/her) into a coaching program or coaching session.
Then…..when you start working with her/them, if you have questions that pop up…by all means post here or call the office!
      You got this!!!

        2. She has the medical clearance for your coaching? A referral? Awesome!
I have no specific advice here… because I do not know what you will be looking to achieve in your coaching sessions 🙂 (not trying to be a smart @ss) I don’t have enough information to guide you.
I have personally never worked in such a situation where the mom wants coaching for her child and it actually transpired…never got that far in the process.
Possibly Marc from the UK could have some pointers 🙂 or anyone else in the Forum!!
