ParticipantHello from Adelaide!
One of my students has reported a client has a spinning sensation during hypnosis as below:
I get this very unusual feeling. I had it both times I’ve been hypnotised and each time I’ve tried to meditate.
It’s a fullon spinning sensation, like being spun around on an office chair… but rather than me spinning, it’s the room (not dissimilar to many nights in my early 20s). Or if you ever went to the investigator science centre in the 90s and they had the sphere space spinning contraption.
Has anyone had experience with this before? what would you suggest for the client?
Thanks!

ParticipantHi Toni,
Here’s some grist for the mill.
1) Utilisation – the story goes that many, many years ago Bandler had a client and the client said he had a voice in his head and that it was a particular character from a TV show who just constantly nagged him. To cut a long story short, Bandler said it wasn’t the voice in the client’s head that was the problem, it was the TV channel so Bandler suggested the client turn the TV control (yep, they probably didn’t have remote controls then) 🙂 and change the channel to something the client really liked. (Respect the client’s MoW, Pace Pace Lead). ALso, is this an actual problem for the student’s client (NOT problem, not result) ? (What would the client like to do instead?)
2) SMD – the spinning has a certain direction, therefore it can be reversed, turned sideways, flipped upside down, moved close, further away etc etc. To refer back to Bandler again, he would say something along the lines of “… when things going in reverse, your neurology understands (and it can take-away/change the meaning” (Think Phobia model). For it to exist, the feeling must also have a location and then – by knowing the location – one can do the aforementioned – turn, flip, rotate, move) and then (pace pace lead)….. s…l..o..w.. it down… until… it……..com….plete…..ly.. <YAWN>…. stttttopppppsss. (If that is what is required/desired outcome).
Hope that gives you some food for thought.
cheers,
Rob.-

ParticipantHey Rob,
Thank you, you are always a wealth of information!
I had suggested the SMD option so that’s great and this gives me even more to back it up with.
This week of MP finishes Friday so I’ll give you a buzz after that ??
Cheers, Toni

ModeratorHi Toni
How are you? Thanks for posting because this is a good topic….
Both you and Rob have already touched on SMD. what has worked for me is SMD visual – movie/still…. if the picture is moving using embedded commands to bring it to still…
I do have a question… if the room is spinning, is this causing the client to feel unwell/uncomfortable? And/or is the client getting benefit from the hypnosis session? am asking because I’m wondering if this might be the way their unconscious is working or maybe not? maybe this happens to others?
It will be great to hear how you go…

Participant“What will it be like when you get the benefits without the spinning?”
“When did you make the decision you did just then to make it so that in the future you get the same benefits without the spinning now?”-

ParticipantOn a lighter note Toni, you can always get the student to remind the client, in the presence of rapport (and if the client is open it) that they are doing what everything – in the quantum universe does – spin. (Every behaviour is useful in some context, and has meaning). At the quantum level, everything spins – quarks, electrons, protons and so on. Hopefully the student is also watching the client’s non-verbal – rolling eyes, (circular) hand gestures and the like are also examples of “spinning”. And of course, if the student can create a great metaphor that relates to something the client does (sport, hobby), that can be incorporated into the session.
