ModeratorDear fellow trainers, I have a question…and am looking forward to your expert answers 🙂
What do you do when you are in a training and then you get to the section to change TL direction and a student has indicated previously that their past is about 30cm in front of their face with their whole hand pointing to their right and their future is about 50 cm in front of them directly behind the hand showing the direction of the past, with their whole hand pointing to the left? So they put their arm straight out in front and the hands turn 90 degrees …… I haven’t seen a TL like this before and am curious…. my thinking is that they are through time – I asked some meta program questions and this backed up my thinking…. am I on the right track… so if through time I can work with that… what do you think? Or are they parallel? If parallel what do I do please? Thanks so much, Gina ?

ParticipantGina this is interesting…and because I don’t have a visual to go with this, I’ll help as much as I can.
So the first question, I’d ask my client, if their arms are at a 90 degree angle,”does any part of the line pass through your body?”
That will help me to know if they’re “in time” or “through time”If you’re working with 2 parallel lines one line designated for the past and one for the future…which seems like what you’re describing here…I’d ask “where is ‘now’ located?” I’d want to see if we’re working with one time line here or several. Maybe ‘now’ connects the 2 lines and we have one whole time line…maybe not. We don’t know until we ask, and anyway they organize their time line is perfect for them. There’s a part in the script of elicitation that asks this. {if there are 2 or more complete time lines ask, “which of these time lines would be the best to use to cause the most pervasive and long lasting change to occur?”}
So if we’re doing any change work with the direction of their time line we want to be certain of the current location and also work with just one of the time lines.
Hope this helps and feel free to add anything guys 😉-

ParticipantNice!! You got this!!
Generally, a good thing to remember…if you’re not clear how to proceed, the chances are you don’t have enough info from your client and you just have to ask more questions (meta model, hierarchy of ideas, milton model, etc.)
We are soooo well trained that when you have enough info, you’ll always know exactly what to do and when to do it 🙂
