KeymasterContradictions actually do not exist if you’re holding your consciousness permanently in the paradoxical frame of mind which can be compared to position 3 in Perceptial Positions technique.
If yo don’t, what you will find is that whenever you think you are facing a contradiction, and are able to check your premises (which most people don’t) you will find that one of them is always wrong.Second thought:
“Consciousness is something we each develop to the degree we feel and think for ourselves. Insofar as we merely accept the emotional and intellectual commonplaces of others were remain dead. Far from accepting that everything should be directed toward a common purpose, we should champion the right of minds to follow their own curiosity wherever it may lead. Curiosity is insubordination in its purest form, and attitude that today […] will get you in severe trouble.

ModeratorHi Adriana, I read this the other day and then paused… I had started reading “The Brain That Changes Itself” by Norman Doidge MD. I was browsing a bookstore in Brisbane city and came across it… along with other books… anyway…
Your first thought. Hmmm..contradiction….definition = a combination of statements, ideas, or features which are opposed to one another. The mere thought of living a life like that is ‘apelpisia’ which in Greek is exasperation. For me, that is a waste of energy. Being in position 3 makes sense. Just today I was in a Board meeting and I was watching the physiology around the table and listening to the language. Later on, I was having a quick lunch with an individual who said ‘that was a heavy meeting…so many contradictions ..’ so I casually asked some questions around PP and his face calmed…then he said ‘Ahhh, that makes sense..’ ‘what makes sense?’ I asked objectively and he said ‘well, it’s how you look at it and I was just hearing a whole lot of contradictions… and the messages confused me…’
I agree, your first thought is really a wise message.Second thought. Wow… champion the rights of minds… so there I was, reading the book by Doidge and the life of Cheryl who had been prescribed an antibiotic that resulted in vestibular problems and her balance went…the author writes about neuroplasticity and the unconscious mind (I was thinking about Time Line Therapy(R) by this stage). According to research, it is reported that neurons can make more than one neurotransmitter (we know that they bathe every cell…). And now, it is thought that a new type of neuroplasticity with changing neurotransmitters has been discovered – how will this influence the treatment of neurological diseases they ask? The author says that with depression a single synapse is strengthened or weakened in the process of memory formation… I learn that each cell has DNA to make neurotransmitters… I park this for a while because…then I started reading ‘Biology of Freedom: Neural Plasticity, Experience and the Unconscious’ to find out what the author had to say. So, he says the connection among neurons are permanently modified by experience and the changes are both structural and functional. Plasticity entails the fact that through the sum of lived experiences, each individual is seen to be unique and unpredictable beyond the determinations of genetic background (made me think of the cloned cat referred to by Tad and Adriana). Now imagine this..there are around over one hundred billion neurons and each receives around 10,000 synapses from other neurons which gives a million billion points of contact to which information can be transmitted among neurons. Amazing when you think about the efficiency with which information is transmitted from one neuron to another at each contact point… and these vary in the course of our lives depending on experience. And I learn that the presynaptic part of the synapse contains small sac like containers of molecules – the neurotransmitters are collected here and can be used more widely than we thought… so plasticity, plasticity, plasticity? The transfer of information can be either readily made throughout our neurology or not… what affects all that? So to me, there is a paradox because the mechanisms in life that permit the inscription of experiences are also those that separate us from experience…and then I wondered about the role of Limiting Decisions, and other techniques that give us the ability to enable neurological changes resulting in the releasing of blockages and the flow of information. Back to Cheryl, a good question for her in a supportive way would be.. and this brings me to my point about the consciousness and championing the right of minds to follow their curiosity. What would happen if we were conscious of how we can benefit our neurology and open to allowing our minds to be curious about how the conscious and unconscious work together for our benefit. Cheryl, in the first book I read, went through a lot of therapy to regain balance. At first, she thought her world was coming to an end. A device was invented that helped her to regain balance through the curiosity of a scientist… thinking and inquiring to find a solution… experimenting. If Cheryl had accepted the emotional and intellectual commonplace of others, she may have not been around to tell her story to Doidge and I would not be sharing her story with you… anyway, what is severe trouble… let curiosity win and just forget about trouble..???
Adriana, really loved the thoughts and thanks so so much for these… fed my mind ….Gina

ParticipantI love a good paradox and finding the opportunities to just be curious. Curiosity is one of the best attributes to use as a good salesperson, trainer, practitioner. The idea that curiosity is insubordination is interesting… Which perceptual position would you have to be in to think that?

KeymasterThe one where your mind is 1. critically thinking indepndently and therefore 2. position 3 – out of the bind of “this OR that” and into the “both/and” and what else is there frame.

ParticipantI too love paradox. I love the thought of creating a practice of “holding your consciousness permanently in the paradoxical frame of mind which can be compared to position 3 in Perceptial Positions technique”. I feel sharing this will help many of my clients.
