ParticipantHi All – I’ve just turned away a client and would like to know how you would have handled this situation.
A mum phoned me about her 13 year old daughter. Apparently the girl has 3 voices in her head – one a very negative voice telling her to harm herself. Mother has found daughter cutting herself. There is another 21 year daughter already 5 months pregnant and an 11 year old boy who has Asbergers. They have no medical aid and very little money.
Theoretically I could use Parts Integration and TLT but my projection is heading in the direction of – “this sounds like psychosis”.
Plus it seems like a messy family situation which is not my niche.
I also burnt my fingers last year getting low pay for a boy with chronic pain who was sent by his parent and just NOT interested in seeing me. (when is a client a client? 😉 )So I referred her into a friend of mine who does traditional counseling pro bono who also has a medical background and who could refer on to a psychiatrist if necessary.
I’d be interested in your input and comments. Thank you.

ParticipantHellllooo Jenny!! Thank you for posting!!
First off, you’re the business owner and a Coach if you do not want to take on a client, that’s your choice and it’s a respectable one.
If you don’t WANT to take a client, it’s best to refer it out for a whole number of reasons that will benefit you and your client. Now, CAN you take a client like this and help her if you WANTED?? Absolutely yes. I have worked with individuals like this, Tad and Adriana have and they talk about it on their Prac DVDs….and to be completely honest, taking Prac helped me with my own personal inner demons that manifested into a really strong harmful inner voice. Some of us can relate to this ‘negative voice’ to some degree or another.
I would have personally referred her to anyone in the field who WAS willing to take on this young client. Actually, I would have asked the mother first…”I am not able to take any new clients at this time, however I am certain that your daughter will get amazing results in this field, would you like me to recommend another NLP/TLT MAster Practitioner?” If her answer was yes, I’d simply ask a colleague that I’ve done trainings with or make a post in the forum to see who’s interested in working with 13 year olds. If her answer was no, then I’d go to recommend the counseling route and for her to do her own research on that.
Personally, I am so congruent that all the methodologies in this field can help EVERY problem…sometimes alongside medical/nutritional care (depending on the problem)…so I’d ask the mother what are her beliefs about care for her child and make a recommendation that’s aligned with that.
Hope this helps!

ParticipantFabulous feedback – thank you Laura. It also made me realize that my training in the conventional psychiatric field is also manifesting in the form of inner voices of limiting beliefs! 🙂 Go well and look forward to seeing you soon.

KeymasterJust quickly posting in a break. The training with Japan still going on.
Just as a general overarching issue. Unexpressed anger, turnred inwardly. No possibility of expression outside. Probably stern family where no personal expression possible. Strong and harsh authoritarian VL 4.-
