ModeratorHi All
It’s post the public holidays here in Australia and the year is already 1/4 way through (everywhere in the world)…. Glen and I spent some time over the past few days evaluating where we are at for this time of the year and it’s such a useful exercise to do to help keep us on track.
How does doing a check-in help you? Do you do this regularly or just once a year?
One of our clients does a check in every month!
Keen to hear what is happening out there…
Thanks, Gina 🙂

ParticipantHi Gina
Great question!
I’m super hot on tasking, so it applies to me too as well as the people I work with. I have just reviewed last year’s plan, and set out the big picture plan for this year, as I do on March 31st each year. Then I have monthly reviews to reset targets and go again. But I also have a weekly review for the immediate targets in the coming days.
To keep me accountable, I discuss this weekly with my wife, who also does the same with her goals, so we coach each other.
All this filters down into an immediate ‘important task list’ of what’s actually in my control to achieve each day. This is a fluid and changeable list of priorities which are my main focus. This really helps me when the goal posts move, or unexpected opportunities arise – law of requisite variety!
This has been fundamental to my increasing success in all areas – consistency over time, through a methodological approach and accountability.

ModeratorWow Marc – this is excellent and I can see that your approach is yielding great results! Thank you for sharing – particularly in the severe lockdown world you were/are in….
I like that you discuss weekly with your wife – Glen and I talk about what/how regularly and what this does for me is like a mini SWOT for the BIG goals. And those goal posts have moved a lot over the past year and I think will do so for a while based on what we see before us.
Reviewing 31st March is such a practical thing to do! I like it! it’s not Christmas time or post NY etc… hmmm lots to learn from you ?
Just today, I heard that a friend recently took a year’s leave from her job and bought a farm! Talk about complete shift in career! She has a very clear vision and her action plan is incredible. A 1500 acre farm! I asked her what her goal is and she wants to be a top female farmer producing a specific type of wool fleece and goat’s milk. What I got from this is that here we are right in the middle of a pandemic and you can run a successful business through a very good action plan aligned with goals and a clear vision.
And just last week I heard that one of our graduates finished Master Prac and two weeks later started relationships coaching…. she is so busy that her diary is full! I loved it when she said ‘take action, that’s what I did’. I think I remember Adriana saying that a few times (or more at pracs and TT ?).
The thing is, the ball will continue to shoot between the posts when we are agile on our feet to know where the ball will go next. I remember reading some Michael Jordan a number of years ago (I think in 2000). when he was interviewed about his goal winning success and he said never take your eye off the ball and be where the ball will be and not where the ball was. That got locked in my my mind and I remember that all the time.
Like you say ‘Law of Requisite Variety’. this law comes round and round all the time… just love it.
Thank you for sharing Marc… I wonder what other gems you have…. ?
